The science
So like many I was skeptical about Sound therapy. (Don't stop reading at this point it is backed up with science and proven methods) Having worked in radio engineering before entering education I was ofay with how frequencies worked across the spectrum. From 0hz - GHz and beyond. Everything has resonance and it's own fundamental frequency.
We have all seen in demonstration a wine glass shatter when exposed to high frequency sound waves. The rock band Hawkwind used to use pulse low frequencies at the crowd some losing the use of their bowels, done just for fun! So we are aware how frequencies and sound waves can impact the body and brain.
So you may be thinking how sound is used in therapy? Now I don't claim that sound therapy can heal diseases and physical medical conditions, some may but I prefer to say that it can have a huge impact on our wellbeing thus improving our general health by lowering cortisol levels, reducing blood pressure, stress & anxiety. Of course this running together with an improved healthy lifestyle. Reducing alcohol intake, eating healthy food, keeping fit even if this is just a walk in the park. In fact being outside and amongst nature is proven to help reduce stress.
Through my music I enter into some science around Alpha & Theta brain waves.
Although you can and I advise you do your own research, Alpha waves in the 8-12Hz frequency range support lower cortisol levels and alleviate the symptoms of generalised anxiety.
Theta brain waves 4-8Hz - They are highly active during meditation, the grey line between deep sleep and being awake. Stimulation supports focus after mental burnout, helps with emotional processing, regulating and lowering stress levels.
So how does this all work? To keep it simple the generation of soundwaves at certain frequencies mix and harmonise with each other, creating a plus and minus of new frequencies. e.g 120Hz + 112Hz gives a plus of 232Hz but a negative of 8Hz which sits in our Theta and Alpha range. A combination of different frequencies create output across the spectrum of interest.
Using a technique called binaural beats or in fact oscillations by mixing sine-waves fed to each side of the human ear via headphones. (I recommend buying some good ear pods or headphones to make the most of this method) the oscillations together provide stimulus to the brain increasing activity in the Alpha and Theta brain waves.
The use of natural and nature sounds.
How many times have you walked through a forest, a park, countryside, sitting by a river, running water or found a quiet spot on the beach. The stress just melts away and helps improve our wellbeing.
The sound of this nature contains a mix of white noise and a range of frequencies within the background mix of soundwaves that supports improved mental wellbeing. By recording these sounds and mixing them as a back drop to soundscapes, deep gongs, singing bowls and binaural beats the listener is exposed to pleasing frequencies allowing further support with Alpha and Theta brain wave stimulation.
I hope now you are convinced or at least curious to give this a try.
All my music is composed, recorded and played by myself, no Ai is used.
